  60. 1.3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
  61.  
  62.     A.  Water repellents specified herein are clear, deep
  63.         penetrating, non-film forming, non-silicone or urethane,
  64.         non-yellowing, heavy duty, chemical water repellent
  65.         solutions.
  66.  
  67. 1.4 SUBMITTALS
  68.  
  69.     A.  Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
  70.  
  71.     B.  Product Data:  Three copies of manufacturer's current
  72.         technical data sheets for materials.
  73.  
  74. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  75.  
  76.     A.  Pre-Installation Meetings:
  77.         1.  Before Application:  Installer and Manufacturer's
  78.             Representative shall inspect surfaces to be treated,
  79.             noting in writing to the Architect, deficiencies or
  80.             flaws in the substrate construction which would
  81.             affect the performance or appearance of the water
  82.             repellent.
  83.         2.  Beginning of Application:  Manufacturer's
  84.             Representative shall assure utilization of proper
  85.             equipment, verify material quantities, and supervise
  86.             material application techniques upon a substantial
  87.             wall section.  This wall section shall act as a
  88.             comparative standard for the project.
  89.  
  90.     B.  Installer shall comply with recommendations and
  91.         instructions set forth by manufacturer as part of
  92.         manufacturer's service in addition to complying with the
  93.         terms of the warranty.
  94.  
  95.     C.  Installer Qualifications:  Minimum five years experience
  96.         regularly engaged and specializing in the application of
  97.         specialty surface treatments to exterior wall substrates.
  98.  
  99.     D.  Installer shall not proceed with material application
  100.         until all deficiencies noted in pre-application
  101.         inspection report have been corrected.
  102.  
  103.     E.  Installer shall notify manufacturer no less than 72 hours
  104.         before starting application.
  105.  
  106. 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  107.  
  108.     A.  Deliver materials in original sealed containers, clearly
  109.         marked with manufacturer's name, type of material, and
  110.         batch number.
  111.  
  112.     B.  Inspect the materials upon delivery to assure that
  113.         specified products have been received.
  114.  
  115.     C.  Store materials where temperatures are not less than 45
  116.         degree F (7 degrees C).
  117.  
  118.     D.  Use all means necessary to protect material before,
  119.         during, and after installation, and to protect work of
  120.         other trades.
  121.  
  122. 1.7 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  123.  
  124.     A.  All materials shall comply with current Federal and State
  125.         environmental requirements.
  126.  
  127. 1.8 WARRANTY
  128.  
  129.     A.  Manufacturer's Material Warranty:  Manufacturer's
  130.         warranty against water intrusion:
  131. NOTE ** Contact manufacturer for warranty period based on
  132.         project requirements and select appropriate
  133.         subparagraph below.
  134.         1.  Warranty Period:  Five years from date of Substantial
  135.             Completion.
  136.         2.  Warranty Period:  Ten years from date of Substantial
  137.             Completion.

  139.     B.  Installer Warranty:  Warrant workmanship for a period of
  140.         two years from the date of Substantial Completion.

  193. PART 3  EXECUTION
  194.  
  195. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  196.  
  197.     A.  Verify that surfaces to be coated are in proper
  198.         condition.
  199.         1.  New substrates: Cured 30 days before application.
  200.         2.  Cured substrates:  Allowed to dry three to seven days
  201.             following rainfall before application.
  202.         3.  Substrate moisture content:  No higher than 15
  203.             percent as registered on an electronic moisture
  204.             meter.
  205.  
  206.     B.  Verify that voids in masonry joints or joints found to be
  207.         unsound or defective have been raked out and pointed with
  208.         mortar to create a joint of full-face shell thickness.
  209.  
  210.     C.  Where freezing conditions have existed before
  211.         application, allow adequate time for building to thaw.
  212.  
  213. 3.2 PREPARATION
  214.  
  215.     A.  Thoroughly clean substrates of foreign substances, such
  216.         as dirt, efflorescence, and mortar spills.
  217.         1.  Use "dry" cleaning method where applicable.
  218.         2.  Allow three days minimum dry time before applying
  219.             material if wet cleaning method is utilized.
  220.  
  221.     B.  Protect windows and work of other trades against damage
  222.         by coating, whether to be coated or not.
  223.  
  224.     C.  Protect plant life against damage from coatings.
  225.  
  226. 3.3 APPLICATION
  227.  
  228.     A.  Apply materials in strict accordance with manufacturer's
  229.         recommendations and when substrate surface temperature is
  230.         above 45 degrees F (7 degrees C).
  231.         1.  Follow instructions in manufacturer's current
  232.             technical data sheet for general information and
  233.             coverage rates.
  234.  
  235.     B.  Spray apply water repellent using high-volume, low-
  236.         pressure spray equipment, pressure not to exceed 60 psi
  237.         (4,218 g/sq. cm).  Hudson or garden-type sprayer can be
  238.         used for small applications.
  239.  
  240.     C.  Clean all drips, runs, and overspray residue while still
  241.         wet.
  242.  
  243. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
  244.  
  245.     A.  Manufacturer's Representative shall inspect all coated
  246.         surfaces after work is complete to verify proper
  247.         application.
  248.  
  249. 3.5 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
  250.  
  251.     A.  If damage occurs, immediately make all repairs and
  252.         replacements necessary at no additional cost to Owner.
  253.  
  254.     B.  During process of work, remove discarded coating
  255.         materials, rubbish, cans, and rags at end of each
  256.         workday.
  257.  
  258.     C.  Correct any damage by cleaning, repairing or replacing,
  259.         and recoating, as acceptable to Architect.
